There’s nothing like creating something new.
To begin with a seed of an idea and nurture it until it becomes full and complete in your imagination is an incredibly rewarding process. But to take the idea a step further and create a concrete object out of your dreams is truly satisfying – and something we know a little bit about here at Sideroads.
This is our first edition of Sideroads of Almaguin and North Bay. We’ve put our minds to work, trying to find the most interesting people in the area – ones with captivating stories to tell. What we want is for you to feel connected to your community and the people within it, knowing that there’s so much more to your home than meets the eye.
Although we put a great deal of care and effort into the stories we chose to bring to you, our new readers, I have to say that it wasn’t until all the stories were submitted that I realized we had woven a common thread throughout the magazine: the idea of creation and discovery.
From the birth of a new way of life at Piebird Bed and Breakfast, to the second chance for the church in Kearney, to Peter Camani’s literally concrete creations, this issue is all about new beginnings.
Sometimes we aren’t aware of the amazing people and places that are right in our own backyard. People like Troy Hurtubise and his famous bear-proof suit might be a little more well-known than the inside of a NORAD bunker, but discovering talented artists like Liz Lott is a real treat.
My hope is that we’ve introduced you to some new characters within your community – and given you some interesting winter reading material, too. So curl up under your favourite blanket, sit by the fire or just relax wherever you are. Pick up your first edition of Sideroads of Almaguin and North Bay and enjoy something new.
Cheers,
Sarah
